Water Challenge

This is re-posted from Curly Demure and REPOSTED BY ME(SAM)FROM ALLIE RUCKS on Facebook and Wordpress from this point forward.

***I totally plagerized this from HAT, HAT’s H20 Challenge was so well put together and I really respected the wording…. some changes were made but pretty much it is the same****

It’s important to keep the hair moisturized and drinking water moisturizes our skin and hair from the inside out.  Drinking half your body weight or 8 to 10 glasses (8 ounce serving) of water…  With that said, Your daily goal is to drink half your weight in ounces of water NOT TO EXCEED 90 oz for women and 100 oz for men.   You take the amount that you weigh and divide that by two. For example if you weigh 135 lbs, you need to drink at least 67.5 oz per day. If your weight exceeds that of 90 oz. then just cap your water intake at 90.  . Reasons to DRINK MORE WATER:

The best shampoos and conditioners for your hair cannot do what water can do for your hair. You can cover your hair with the products but if you do not include the proper amounts of water in your diet, your hair can become dull and brittle, which can lead to hair loss. Water can make hair strong and give it internal moisture in the follicle.
Water is the main source of energy for all cells in the body. This also includes the cells that promote hair growth. Drinking water can provide the energy to the cells in your hair to help it grow long and strong.
The roots and scalp have many energy sensitive and photosensitive nerve endings that transmit and receive signals. Water supplies energy to those nerve endings so they become more responsive. This also enhances the natural vitality of the hair roots and scalp.  Toxins can travel in the cells and reach the hair, which can be very damaging. This can make hair brittle and break. Water can remove those toxins through the kidneys.
Drinking water flushes your body of toxins, chemicals, and impurities that stifle your hair growth and disrupt your hormone and enzyme imbalances. Water also transports the important nutrients your body needs throughout your body.
Water is the best moisturizer for the hair. Drinking enough water each day can benefit the hair from the inside out. Not only does it moisturize the hair but your hair is less likely break when it is properly hydrated.
Hair is 10 percent water. When you drink enough water to maintain the 10 percent of water in the hair, the hair does not become brittle and break. It also helps the hair absorb vitamins and nutrients it needs to grow.
Did you know that if you aren’t properly hydrated, vitamins that you take are taken in vain?  Water will help circulation of the vitamins in your body and will carry the vitamins to your hair follicles, which in turn will stimulate hair growth and increase hair growth speed. Not drinking enough water might affect hair growth speed in a negative way.
For those who hate the taste of water or who do not like to drink water, try adding some fresh lemon, lime or your favorite fresh or frozen fruit to the water and let it sit for a while.

Did you know that if you are dehydrated, your hair is probably dehydrated as well? Besides our skin, our hair is the second most exposed part of our body and it is often affected by the air, wind and sun. These elements can and usually do wreak havoc on our delicate tresses. Water helps our hair internally in two ways: it provides transportation for the nutrients and it makes the hair pliable, making it less prone to breakage. When your hair is wet it is 100% moisturized. Drinking water is not a direct correlation to hair growth. However, the lack of water can be detrimental to any progress your hair has made. Hydrated hair gives you the greatest chance of retaining length.

Water makes up approximately one fourth of the weight of a strand of hair and when hair has the proper amount of water, it will respond by being supple, and shiny. The human body is generally composed of approximately 60-80% water.  When deprived of adequate water to sustain cell health and reproduction, the body becomes dehydrated, which directly impacts hair growth.

You can be sucking down fistful of hair vitamins and related hair growth supplements, but if you are not downing enough water to meet your bodies daily minimal levels, your cells that drive hair growth will not even reproduce and your hair will become dry.

This Challenge starts  January 9, 2012 and ends Febuary 1st 2012We will be discussing biweekly our porgress and results on Wednesdays @ 7pm…. some changes were made but pretty much it is the same****

🎉I will try to keep up my challenge on here as well as Facebook🎉

NEW YEAR @ 2 YEARS

One week in and still celebrating HAPPY NEW YEARS and HAPPY 2 YEAR LOC'aversary for Meeeeeeeeeee. I'm very excited that I made it this far because we know I have no problem cutting my hair. My current GOAL is still 5years which seems so long away but it's really not that far. A lot of great things have been transpiring in my life as well as my hair. I'm really looking forward to what this year has in store for my locs. To be quite honest, I'm more ecstatic about trying new hairstyles, less products, watching more YouTube, and BLOGGING.

I pray that ALL have a Blessed year and more minds understand NATURAL.

Happy to Be Nappy

Today, was a long day at work but by far I think I restrained myself in this scenario that I'm about to explain. So, I just so happen to be at work and I say hello to a customer who just so happens to be an African American female maybe mid 40s with 2 teenage daughters. HERE WE GO...

ME: Hi, how are you?
Lady: I'm fine. How is your hair twisted?

-----Before, I my mouth dropped-----

Lady's daughter: Mom, its loc'd
Lady: No its not, people do there hair different ways, so ma'am how is your hair.
LD: Ma, it's loc'd - you know dreads. NATURAL
Me: Yes, that's correct. Thanks for explaining.
Lady: Oh, so how does it stay and look like that.
Me: Look like what?
LD: Ma, for real. Are you serious? (highly upset more irritated than me)
Me: Ma'am, look like what? (turning slightly red in the face)
Lady: I don't know.
Me: It's not twisted. It's palm rolled and sponge rollers were used. Have a great day. (walked away saying a long prayer)

Okay, so I really wanted to tell her how I felt, but I tried - I promise I tried that time. Now, if I would have not been at work and out somewhere, I would have really given this lady the run down on how my hair is and NOT looks like. Not being rude, mean, or just a butt hole about this scenario, but come on now let's be smart here. People don't listen nor take time out to understand. I think the next time I have a question some what similar to that if I have they have the time and I have the patience I will try to break down the answers that they want to know. GOOD HAIR

SO, I saw this pic somewhere on Facebook as was so in love with the volumes that these earrings speak in such few words. I think that as a young African American woman this is a powerful message. We come across so many people in this day and age that know they have GOOD HAIR. I understand that the value of knowledge is important in many aspects and this is HUGE. I had my hair permed at a young age (somewhere around 5th or 6th grade I think - ask my Mom), and she taught me a great deal about hair. I begged and begged for a perm. Not a press ever so often but a PERM!!!! I wanted to be RELAXED so badly. Yes, majority of my classmates had them, but at a young age like that you don't often understand. I'm glad that I did have the experience for years of having being relaxed. My mom was right, I would not like them. Now, Look at us Naturals. I understand that being relaxed or pressed can be easier on parents and the child BUT if I had to do it all over again and I knew what the difference and outcome would be instead of being hard-headed - I would no questions asked stick to my natural hair. I love my people and all the different and exciting ways that we can create our hair. I love my Root's/Heritage and I value the work ethic of everything we have accomplished within our hair whether it be straight, curly, wavy, this pattern, that pattern, shape, size, color, grown from scalp, purchased or what have you - its yours. My wish is that people of color today learn, understand, experiment, and share the knowledge of our history, YOUR HISTORY, and why people think straight is better over our natural hair. Explain that what God has given you is for you. Now, only if I can find these earrings I would be more than happy - HELLO!
